Barrett
I make land development drawings consistent, and I build the standards, tools, and training that keep them that way.
Profile
Christian Barrett is a VDC coordinator and Autodesk developer in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, with about twenty five years in land development. Most of that has been spent in AutoCAD Civil 3D, moving projects from raw survey through construction documents and closeout in Horry County, Myrtle Beach, North Myrtle Beach, and Brunswick County, North Carolina.
At Development Resource Group he is the VDC Coordinator. He owns the CAD standards, runs plan production QC, coordinates the outsourced production team, and writes the automation that keeps a set consistent from the title sheet to the last detail.
Through New Roots Development, his own practice since 2018, he builds and licenses Civil 3D tools, teaches the software as an Autodesk Authorized Instructor, and helps design firms put AI to work inside the workflows they already run. He is an Autodesk developer publishing tools for Civil 3D, and an FAA Part 107 remote pilot studying UAS maintenance at Horry Georgetown Technical College.
Earlier he ran CADTECHS, his own Autodesk training and consulting practice, spent four years supporting Autodesk and its reseller channel as an AEC applications specialist across twelve states, wrote The Civil Side for AUGI, and grew the largest Civil 3D user group on LinkedIn past ten thousand members before selling it. Before CAD he framed houses, ran a forklift, fabricated steel, and programmed CNC machines. That is still how he reads a set of plans.
What I do
VDC coordination and CAD standards
Templates, styles, plot standards, and file structure for a full production office. Deployment, workstation configuration, and the documentation that keeps every seat drawing the same way.
Civil 3D training and support
Surfaces, corridors, pipe networks, data shortcuts, and sheet production, taught against real project work instead of sample files. Onboarding, one on one support, and workflow rebuilds.
Plan review and QC
Pre submittal review of civil plan sets against agency requirements and company standards. Findings written the way a reviewer writes them, so the set gets fixed once instead of three times.
Tools, automation, and AI
Custom Civil 3D commands, rule based drawing audits, and quantity takeoff templates. Practical AI implementation for design firms, built into the workflow and maintained after it ships.
